CM Punk has a battle ahead of him at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Thanks to Seth Rollins being stripped of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship due to injury, Punk will face Jey Uso for the title in Salt Lake City. Punk had already won a #1 contender match prior to that, and then Jey Uso clinched the other spot after winning a battle royal This all puts Punk at quite a crossroads, and there are many opinions out there about how things should play out.
During a recent interview with TMZ Sports, Tyrus was asked for his opinion on CM Punk possibly winning a championship at Saturday Night’s Main Event. After all, that could be the world we’re living in when November 1 is over.
Tyrus said CM Punk should focus on helping younger wrestlers instead of chasing titles. He praised Punk for helping him in the past, that being said, he still believes it’s now time for others to shine. He went on to use Chris Jericho’s work in AEW as an example of how veterans can elevate new talent.
“I think Punk is at a point in his career where titles really shouldn’t be on the radar. Really, he should be getting the Breakers ready. He should be getting the young guys ready. I think there’s a point… again, nothing against Phil. I love Phil. He gave me a match, a title match on Monday Night Raw when at the time when none of the other top guys would. So I’m always thankful. He’s always a good dude. But I also think there comes a point when it’s the other guy’s time. And who better to get somebody over than… look what Jericho was doing in AEW. How many guys did he make over there? So I think there comes a point where it’s not about the titles.”
Chris Jericho has done a lot in AEW when it comes to helping out new talent, but CM Punk has also made frequent stops by the WWE Performance Center. Both have also influenced a generation of pro wrestlers after them. Odds are, that will not stop in the years to come.
Only time will tell what happens with CM Punk and Jey Uso’s big World Heavyweight Title match at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Tyrus will likely be watching along with the rest of us, and his opinion about how the match should turn out is more than clear.
