A recent rumor surrounding Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss’ plans for WWE SummerSlam has now been debunked.
According to a report by Fightful Select, despite circulating rumors, there were never any plans in place for Charlotte Flair to face off against Alexa Bliss at the SummerSlam Premium Live Event.
“It was specified to us that despite rumors, there were never plans for Charlotte Flair vs. Alexa Bliss at Summerslam.”
This comes after Dave Meltzer claimed on Wrestling Observer Radio that the original plan for SummerSlam was for Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss to face each other in a match. However, since their tag team had been working well together, WWE chose not to rush the split.
Meltzer claimed the situation was similar to the storyline between Randy Orton and Matt Riddle, which was originally meant to be short-term but ended up lasting nearly a year. While it was unclear how long Charlotte and Alexa’s partnership would last, the initial idea had been for a brief alliance followed by a quick feud.
“So that match originally was going to be Charlotte and Alexa Bliss against each other. So the idea was that they figured the team was doing well, so why rush it? It was kind of like a Randy Orton, Matt Riddle thing—which, remember, that was supposed to be a three-week thing and ended up lasting like a year or whatever.
So I don’t know if this is going to go for a year, but the idea—the original idea for SummerSlam, I mean, the original idea for the team—was that they were going to split up right away and feud. But that has apparently been delayed.”
Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez are set to defend the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles against Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss at the SummerSlam Premium Live Event, so Flair and Bliss are more focused on that right now. While fans believe Flair and Bliss will eventually feud in the future, it’s clear they were never supposed to face each other at SummerSlam.
