CJ Perry just confirmed what many longtime WWE fans suspected—her love story with Miro (Rusev) didn’t just go viral, it killed her on-screen romance with Dolph Ziggler.

Speaking to Ring the Belle, Perry admitted that it was TMZ’s leak of her real-life engagement photo with Miro that abruptly ended her soap opera-style WWE storyline with Ziggler and Summer Rae back in 2015.

“TMZ not only leaked the engagement photo, which ended this iconic storyline that a lot of people were really upset about…”

At the time, Perry and Miro were feuding on screen—separated as part of a dramatic love triangle that had her aligned with Ziggler and Miro paired with Summer Rae. But once the engagement photo hit the internet, WWE creative pulled the plug.

“It did finish the storyline because of us getting engaged. We were trending for three days…”

And according to Perry, the decision came straight from the top—because Vince McMahon confused TMZ with CNN and thought the situation had become “world news.”

“Vince thought CNN was the same as TMZ… he was like, ‘TMZ, you guys are the same as CNN.’ So TMZ, you guys are the same as CNN according to Vince McMahon. Awesome, awesome, awesome.”

Perry also mentioned that TMZ has been all over her personal life for years—citing not only the engagement leak but even more recent stories, including her previous separation from Miro. Looking back, Perry said the situation taught her to stay flexible in the chaos of wrestling and celebrity life.

“TMZ loves to run stories on us… then they leaked the separation recently, and I was like, what is going on? I guess it just taught me that you have to roll with the punches.”

An engagement photo meant to celebrate love ended up collapsing one of WWE’s most talked-about storylines—and all because Vince McMahon thought TMZ was CNN. In classic wrestling fashion, real life wrote the final twist.
