Chris Jericho’s name quickly became part of WWE Elimination Chamber speculation after WWE teased a mystery reveal tied to February 28, but a new update has now made his status very clear.

According to Fightful Select, it is highly unlikely that Jericho will appear at Elimination Chamber, as he remains under contract with AEW. He is still listed on AEW’s official roster page, and sources indicated that his deal was extended beyond this timeframe due to time he previously missed.

This update directly shuts down the growing belief that Jericho could be connected to WWE’s recent “Do Not Open Until 2-28” mystery box teaser on RAW. While fans immediately began speculating about a possible WWE comeback, there has been no internal indication that Jericho is leaving AEW or preparing for a return.

Additional context from Wrestling Observer Radio further reinforces that Jericho’s contract situation may have changed due to standard industry practices. Dave Meltzer addressed the rumors about Jericho’s deal being extended because of time missed and made it clear that the information aligns with what he has heard.

“I would be 95% sure that that’s true. I mean, I’ve heard things along those lines. And the fact that nobody has said that it’s not true… usually when something like that’s not true, somebody will say it. And nobody has.”

Meltzer also explained how contract freezes work in wrestling, noting that time missed can be added back onto the original contract length.

“The whole idea of freezing a contract… if you’re out for a period of time, they can add that time back on. That’s standard in wrestling contracts.”

This means Jericho’s expected contract expiration may have been pushed further out than originally believed, effectively removing him from consideration for WWE appearances like Elimination Chamber. Meltzer also suggested that Jericho’s long-term career direction may ultimately depend on where he fits best at this stage.

“A couple years ago, I would have thought that he would just stay in AEW until the end. I don’t think going back for the Hall of Fame is that big of a deal to him personally.”

“It’s probably better for his career at this point to be in a place where the fan base is more accepting of him.”

Between Fightful Select’s direct reporting and Meltzer’s additional insight, the situation is becoming increasingly clear. Despite the mystery teaser and intense speculation, Chris Jericho remains under AEW contract and is not expected to appear at WWE Elimination Chamber.
