Chris Jericho has finally revealed just how big the “A Little Bit of the Bubbly” phenomenon became—and it all started from a live, off-the-cuff promo about bad catering.

On the Busted Open Podcast, Jericho shared the full story of how his viral catchphrase turned into a real-life sparkling wine that sold tens of thousands of bottles.

After winning the AEW World Championship at All Out 2019, Jericho was supposed to film a celebratory backstage promo. Instead of an extravagant spread, he walked into a table with cold cuts, a few olives, and a bottle of champagne. With the cameras rolling live, he decided to improvise.

“So that was backstage in Chicago, and the idea was that I had won the belt, and I’m walking through the arena and insulting some people. And then I get to my dressing room where there’s a huge spread that had been put out for the champion.”

“Well, when I walked into the dressing room, the huge spread was basically like a few cold cuts on a tray, a couple olives, and the champagne in the bucket. It was like the worst spread ever. So it was just kind of like, okay, well, I better… and it was live, so I better do something with this.”

Jericho started parodying Spinal Tap with jokes about the food, but fans latched onto one specific line instead.

“Nobody cared about my Spinal Tap reference, but everyone jumped upon this, you know, Dumb and Dumber ‘a little bit of the bubbly’ type of thing.”

Within days, memes and remixes flooded the internet. Jericho immediately called his manager to capitalize on the viral moment.

“I called my manager, and I was like, we need to find a champagne company—like now. I need to have this released, like, in the next month: A Little Bit of the Bubbly Chris Jericho Champagne.”

And the gamble paid off.

“We found somebody that could turn it over quickly. And we ended up selling 30,000 bottles of A Little Bit of the Bubbly sparkling wine—because you can’t call it champagne unless it’s actually from the region of France called Champagne.”

What started as a throwaway line about a sad catering table became one of AEW’s most successful pieces of merchandise, proving Jericho’s knack for turning spontaneous moments into gold.
