Chris Bey is keeping it real—and raw—as he continues to recover from a serious injury that’s kept him out of the ring for over a year.
The 29-year-old TNA star took to social media on January 17 to share an emotional statement about where he’s at mentally and physically more than 15 months after getting injured during a TNA TV taping in Detroit. While he’s remained largely positive throughout the process, Bey admitted that he recently hit a wall during a workout session.
“I cried yesterday… let me explain,” Bey wrote. “Last week I went down to the dungeon 2.0. I had an amazing time and witnessed some amazing things. So grateful for the invite. Then it hit me hard this week.”
Bey opened up about how watching his peers succeed triggered a wave of difficult emotions—especially as he continues to struggle with basic recovery milestones. The moment that broke him came mid-workout.
“A bunch of my friends are signing to new promotions or doing cool things in their promotions, friends doing well in the indies. TNA moved over to AMC. I’m still struggling to get out of bed daily.”
“In the gym yesterday in the middle of my workout I just broke down. Tears flowed through my eyes like they haven’t in a few months. I couldn’t help but think ‘where would I be if I didn’t get hurt?’”
Despite the emotional moment, Bey pushed through and finished his workout—offering a reminder to fans and fellow wrestlers alike that vulnerability isn’t weakness.
“Eventually, I wiped my eyes and picked up the dumbbells and did my next set. Continued to complete my workout. It’s okay to be transparent and vulnerable, it’s okay to feel. It’s not okay to give up.”
Bey later clarified that there’s no resentment toward those finding success around him, only support.
“If I didn’t stress it enough, I’m so proud of everyone. Not a jealous bone in my body. I’ve said it from day one, before the injury—we can all get it.”
Back in December, Bey appeared on Wrestling Observer Live and said he feels “100 times better” than he did a year ago—but also noted that regaining feeling has brought with it new pain. He added that he still hopes to return to the ring when the time is right, saying: “I’m in no rush. I know when my body’s ready for it, I’ll be able to do it.”
Chris Bey’s story is a reminder that even the strongest fighters have tough days—but getting back up is what really counts.
