Chelsea Green’s continued presence on WWE television while dealing with an injury wasn’t part of a sudden shift in company policy — it was her own decision to remain visible.
During a recent Fightful Select Q&A, Sean Ross Sapp addressed why WWE allowed Green to stay on television despite being sidelined from in-ring action. Traditionally, WWE removes injured talent from TV until they are medically cleared, but Green didn’t want to disappear from programming while recovering. Instead, she pushed to remain involved in storylines and appearances that didn’t require physical competition.
Sapp explained that WWE ultimately supported the idea because Green could still add value to shows without wrestling, making the situation beneficial for both sides. He also noted that she has continued appearing across multiple brands while discussions about her eventual return remain ongoing.
“WWE tends to keep injured talent off TV until they heal. Why did they change that with Chelsea Green? Well, because she pushed to stay on TV. She wanted to be there. She didn't want to have that downtime, so to speak. And WWE agreed. It was one of those situations where it was mutually beneficial for both sides. She didn't need to be in the ring in order to be a beneficial talent. And she has remained on AAA and SmackDown, and she's going to continue on AAA and SmackDown. WrestleVotes had reported that she's been discussed internally about her return and all that, and she's been out for almost two months at this point.”
Green’s situation shows how some performers choose to stay active on television even when they can’t compete physically, especially when their character work can still contribute to ongoing storylines. WWE allowing her to remain visible also keeps her connected to audiences while her recovery continues, which could make her eventual in-ring return feel even bigger.
Chelsea Green staying on television during her injury recovery was clearly driven by her own desire to remain part of the show, and WWE’s willingness to support that approach shows how valuable strong character work can be outside of matches.
Do you think Chelsea Green made the right call by staying on TV while injured, or should WWE stick to keeping injured stars completely off television? Let us know your thoughts and drop your feedback in the comments.
