Charlotte Flair has always faced a lot of criticism from fans for various reasons, especially when it comes to her looks. Unfortunately, Flair has now revealed how she was once body shamed very badly after she came back from COVID.

While writing in the Player’s Tribune, Charlotte Flair talked about returning at the Raw after WrestleMania 37. She had been off for six weeks because she got COVID. During that break, she focused on getting healthy and finally got in the best shape of her life.

Flair said she lost around 25 pounds, became leaner and more toned, and felt amazing. Flair said she has always been a bit insecure about how she looks, so she was really proud of the work she did and how she looked that night.

“I have this memory. It’s about four years ago..…. I just worked my first show in a while: the Raw after WrestleMania 37, after being out six weeks from COVID.

It’s extremely hard to live healthy on the road — so while I was off, I did something I’d wanted to do for a long time: I got in the best shape of my life. I lost like 25 pounds. I got leaner, and more toned. I felt so great. I’ve always been pretty self-conscious about my appearance, but I seriously was SO proud of the effort I’d put in, and the results I’d achieved. And I remember feeling really good about how I’d looked at that night’s show.”

However, when she checked her phone, she found thousands of Twitter notifications. Instead of people talking about how fit she looked or how well she performed, most of the comments were just body shaming her.

People were guessing what kind of plastic surgery she had, saying things like “What happened to Charlotte Flair?” or “Her whole body is fake,” and even joking she looked like her dad in a wig.

“Then I checked my phone after. I literally had thousands of notifications on Twitter — most of it, people speculating about what kind of plastic surgery I’d gotten.

OK. What the f*** happened to Charlotte Flair?! Holy s* her whole body is fake. You KNOW she got work done…… She looks like her DAD in a WIG.”

The Queen of WWE said she’s dealt with stuff like this her whole career and tries not to take it too personally. She knows being famous and working in a job where her body is on display means people will say things. She doesn’t expect anyone to feel sorry for her.

Even then, Flair finds it crazy that fans today seem to know everything about wrestling, both what happens on TV and behind the scenes, yet they forget the simplest thing: she’s not really Charlotte Flair and that’s just the character she plays.

“I’ve dealt with stuff like that my whole career … but I try not to take it personally. On some level, I get it: I’m (relatively) famous, and I make a very good living from work that involves showing off my body. I get that certain things just come with that territory. And I’d never expect anyone to put “feeling sorry for Charlotte Flair” high on their priority list. But it really is wild, how like……. OK, I’ll put it like this: People are getting smarter and smarter when it comes to understanding the wrestling business. Everyone “knows everything” now, not just about what’s on-screen but what’s off-screen as well. And yet, the smarter that people get about wrestling?? The easier they seem to forget the basic concepts. Like the concept that I’m not Charlotte Flair.”

This comes after Charlotte Flair defended herself from criticism that she is in the title picture way too much. Regardless, we do hope people stop attacking Flair like this as many fans feel it’s simply unwarranted and just unnecessary.

What’s your take on Charlotte Flair’s raw honesty about body shaming and her struggle to separate herself from her on-screen character? Sound off in the comments.
