Brian “Road Dogg” James recently stepped away from WWE’s creative team, and the situation has sparked discussion online — including reactions tied to the promotion of Raw’s new lead writer.
Road Dogg had been part of WWE’s creative system for more than a decade after returning to the company in 2014. According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, he chose to leave his role on the SmackDown creative team after receiving his annual performance review and being unhappy with the feedback. The change came during a broader shift within WWE’s writing structure as the company heads toward WrestleMania 42.
One of the biggest moves in that restructuring involves Alexandra Williams, who recently confirmed she has been promoted to Vice President and Lead Writer for Monday Night Raw. Williams announced the news on social media while celebrating the milestone in her career.
“Officially promoted today! Vice President/Lead Writer of Monday Night RAW! So honored and excited!”
Williams had previously served as a senior writer and producer before stepping into the expanded leadership role overseeing the creative development of WWE’s flagship weekly show.
Her promotion quickly drew attention online, and Charlotte Flair appeared to step in after seeing criticism directed toward Williams while discussions about Road Dogg’s departure circulated. Flair first responded to the announcement with a simple celebratory message. Later, Flair posted another message addressing the backlash directly and defending the idea of celebrating a woman’s success.
“If y’all think that celebrating a woman’s success is somehow putting down the man who came before her, you really need to go outside. See you tonight, Portland.”
The situation highlights the ongoing adjustments happening behind the scenes within WWE creative as leadership roles shift and the company continues preparing for WrestleMania season.
