WWE fans saw Chad Gable written off TV during RAW with a brutal-looking attack from Penta—but it turns out that segment wasn’t just for show. The real-life reason is much more serious. Gable is legitimately dealing with a shoulder injury severe enough to require surgery, and based on the latest update, he could be out for over half a year.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez explained how WWE used the on-screen angle to cover for the injury, which has now forced Gable to hit pause on his rising momentum. Alvarez broke down how WWE cleverly tied Gable’s real-life injury into the storyline.

“We got a bunch of other injury notes to get into. Chad Gable is going to require shoulder surgery, which explains the angle on RAW where he got into an argument with Penta. Penta gave him the arm breaker slash shoulder breaker. He sold it huge. It appears he’s going to be out for a while.”

Dave Meltzer followed up by confirming that Gable’s recovery won’t be quick—and fans shouldn’t expect to see him back anytime soon.

“Yeah, yeah. That could be six months or longer. Yeah.”

The timing couldn’t be worse for Gable, who was building major momentum on RAW. His heel turn, new faction, and rivalry with Sami Zayn over the Intercontinental Title had him poised for one of the biggest pushes of his career.

Instead, the injury forces WWE to hit the brakes on those plans, with creative now scrambling to adjust Gable’s absence.

Losing Gable for six months—or potentially longer—is a blow for RAW, especially with the show already dealing with real-life injuries shaking up the roster.
