Caleb Konley has wrestled all over the world, but even with years of experience, he admitted there was a point where things felt uncertain and his confidence started slipping.
During an appearance on Jasmin St. Claire’s Off the Rails podcast, Konley opened up about the rough stretch that followed his departure from TNA and how close he came to questioning his next move. Konley explained that while fans often point to his runs in promotions like Ring of Honor, Dragon Gate, and TNA, the reality behind those accomplishments included multiple setbacks that forced him to rebuild more than once.
“Yeah, um you know, a lot of times, man. I've every time I come on here people, you know, they talk about, ‘Oh, you did Ring of Honor. Oh, you did Dragon Gate USA. Oh, you did TNA. Oh, you did this.’ Yeah, and I got let go from every one of those companies.”
He made it clear that losing those opportunities hit hard, especially since wrestling was never just a job for him — it was the only path he had planned for himself.
“So, like anytime something like that happens, it's always like man, that sucks, but for me like I've always I've always just kind of been the guy like I'm like I said earlier, I don't have a backup plan.”
Konley went on to describe how his final run in TNA came to an abrupt end that left him scrambling to figure out his next move. He said the situation didn’t unfold the way he hoped, and suddenly he found himself without direction.
“The last my last run at at TNA, um you know, it ended very abruptly. Didn't end under my terms at all and you know, I I was basically left twiddling my thumbs with nowhere to go.”
Determined not to let his career stall completely, Konley reached out to several major companies, hoping to land his next opportunity. While there were small signs of interest, nothing solid came together right away.
“And you know, I I reached out to AEW. I reached out to WWE. I reached out to places internationally and I you know, I got a little bit of attention a couple places, but then you know, I was basically just waiting for the next thing to come around.”
That waiting period began to wear on him mentally. Konley admitted that he started doubting himself and wondering if he could still find a meaningful role in the business. Just as those doubts started to settle in, the call that changed everything finally came.
“And JCW like right at the moment that I was really like starting to get down on myself and not really believing I could do anything else, you know, JCW came calling.”
Looking back, Konley framed the moment as proof that persistence matters more than quick success. He believes the key to surviving in wrestling — and in life — is simply refusing to walk away when things get tough.
“So, it's just like it's always about not giving up. It's not it's you're going to get further if you outlast everybody than if you just say, ‘All right, well, I've had a couple bad experiences. Now I'll just call it a day.’”
Konley’s story paints a clear picture of how unpredictable the wrestling business can be. Even experienced performers can find themselves waiting for the phone to ring, unsure of what comes next. In his case, JCW arrived at exactly the moment he needed it, giving him a fresh path forward when confidence was starting to fade.
