Buff Bagwell’s battle with pain, addiction, and medical trauma has reached its most difficult chapter yet.
On Friday morning, Steve Stasiak of Book Pro Wrestlers confirmed that the former WCW star has officially undergone an above-the-knee leg amputation—ending a five-year fight to save his limb following a devastating 2020 car accident.
The news was shared along with a powerful statement and photo of Bagwell recovering post-surgery, honoring both the man and the journey he’s endured.
“Yesterday morning, Marcus ‘Buff’ Bagwell underwent an above-the-knee amputation following years of painful complications from a 2020 car accident. After doing everything he could to avoid this outcome—through surgeries, infections, and a long, exhausting recovery—his fight has now taken a deeply challenging turn.”
The statement reflects not just a medical update, but a heartfelt tribute to a man who’s given his entire body to wrestling. From his charisma and energy in WCW to his brutally honest sobriety journey, Bagwell’s story is one of survival through hell.

Bagwell himself had previously opened up about the amputation on his YouTube channel, saying he had finally made peace with the decision after failed surgeries, infections, and 30+ operations over the years. That wreck in 2020 wrecked more than just his body—it dragged him into addiction and depression. But through all of that, he found sobriety in 2022 and has been clean ever since.
“And now, as I prepare to lose my leg, I don’t feel fear or sadness. I feel peace and joy. Because through this pain, I found sobriety. Losing my leg might’ve been the rock bottom that saved my life.”
