Bryan Danielson is his own toughest critic—even when he’s behind the commentary desk.
Since September 2025, Danielson has been a recurring voice on AEW television, stepping into a new role that fans didn’t expect. Whether it’s Dynamite, Collision, or pay-per-views like Full Gear and Worlds End, Danielson has made the leap from full-time in-ring competitor to ringside analyst. But in a new interview with Justin Barrasso of Undisputed, he admitted that he’s still trying to find his footing.
“A lot of times, I still think I’m rotten,” Danielson confessed. “It’s hard to gauge the show in terms of what worked and didn’t when I’m doing commentary. I do the show and then I watch it back, and I’m getting advice from a lot of talented people.”
Despite his self-criticism, Danielson said he’s giving himself space to grow in this new role.
“In a sense, doing commentary, it is like wrestling. There is an exhilaration to it. I love whenever I get the chance to work with Excalibur, Taz, or Tony Schiavone. The whole experience, it’s fun. So I enjoy the feeling of doing it. Then I go and rewatch and listen, which is similar to what I did as a wrestler. I’m not where I want to be. I’m also giving myself some grace—almost everyone else in that position has been trained and I’m winging it.”
Danielson’s raw honesty about his performance is a reminder that even top-tier veterans like him still strive for improvement. He’s not phoning it in—he’s studying, reviewing, and putting in the work, just like he did in the ring.
