Britt Baker’s absence from AEW programming has fueled endless speculation, and now, new details have surfaced about what’s really going on behind the scenes.

According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter update from Dave Meltzer, Baker isn’t done with AEW, but there are definite issues keeping her off TV.

Meltzer confirmed that Baker’s situation stems from backstage tension, including past drama involving MJF and Alicia Atout, as well as friction with some of the women’s roster. “That’s accurate as well. She’s not done with the company, but who knows about the future. Her deal is believed to have a few years left,” Meltzer stated.

Baker’s name has been tied to multiple conflicts over the years, including a rocky relationship with Thunder Rosa, which surfaced when Rosa was injured and had to vacate the AEW Women’s Championship. While that situation has cooled, her current absence seems to be linked to other behind-the-scenes dynamics.

AEW originally positioned Baker as the face of its women’s division, but times have changed. “Obviously, the face of the company now is Mercedes Mone,” Meltzer noted. Baker was involved in a storyline with Mone and had a setup with Serena Deeb that was never followed up on. While she remains under contract, her future is now entirely in Tony Khan’s hands.

Britt Baker’s AEW future is as murky as ever. She’s still under contract, but with mounting backstage tension, a lack of creative direction, and AEW’s women’s division now centered around Mercedes Mone, it’s unclear when—or if—she’ll be back in the mix. Whether this is just a temporary cooling-off period or a sign of something bigger brewing remains to be seen. One thing’s for sure—when Baker does resurface, the wrestling world will be watching.
