Britt Baker’s in-ring future may not be about retirement — it may be about contract length.

During the February 22, 2026 Fightful Select Q&A, Sean Ross Sapp addressed Baker’s ongoing absence from AEW television and revealed that her deal could potentially stretch much longer than fans expected.

When asked about her status, Sapp explained that Baker remains under contract — and AEW has the option to extend it.

“She's under contract for a number of months and then AEW could add time to her deal, which normally I wouldn't think that they would, but now it seems like absolutely something that they would do.”

That line changes the conversation entirely. AEW has the ability to tack on time to contracts if a wrestler misses extended action due to injuries or physical issues. Baker, who has been off television for a prolonged period, could fall into that category. Sapp elaborated further.

“I mean, she missed like a long time due to some physical ailments and issues. So she could be under contract well into 2027, maybe even the — I don't know, but I've not heard of her being brought up.”

If AEW exercises that option, Baker’s deal could extend deep into 2027 — effectively locking her into the company far longer than many anticipated. The update also suggests there hasn’t been significant internal discussion about bringing her back to TV yet, despite Baker recently stating publicly that she is not retired.

For now, the headline isn’t about a return date — it’s about leverage. AEW appears to hold contractual control that could keep Britt Baker signed for potentially another year or more.

Do you think AEW should extend her deal, or should Baker have the chance to negotiate freely sooner? Drop your thoughts below.
