Nikki Garcia and Artem Chigvintsev’s relationship may have looked perfect from the outside, but their marriage ended in chaos—and Brie Garcia says she saw it coming.
On a recent episode of The Nikki & Brie Show on SiriusXM, Nikki opened up about her divorce and admitted she regrets not signing a prenuptial agreement before tying the knot with her former Dancing with the Stars partner. But according to Brie, this could have all been avoided—because she tried to stop it from the beginning.
“Can I just say a side note, just on the prenup thing?” Brie said. “I told Nicole many times—he needs to sign it. He needs to sign it. Please annul. Please annul. I don’t care. Everyone knows I’m the bad guy. And you believed in such a fairy tale, and you let it go because you loved him.”
Brie explained how difficult it was to watch things fall apart, knowing how many people were trying to get through to Nikki: “So I will say that—because people always try to make the worst of evils and the villains, and it’s just so crazy when, you know, just coming from a sister point…”
“A lot of you who listen, you guys have best friends, sisters, family members—and, you know, there’s us who are the audience watching and being like, ‘Do this! Come on, please!’” Brie added. “And the other one—you know, people easily get lost in love.”
Brie finished by expressing how difficult it’s been to read online commentary that lacks full context. “So it’s kind of how, when I see all the comments and all that, I’m like, ‘You don’t even know where this all actually stemmed from when you’re looking at the settlement.’ It kills me.”
Nikki echoed that regret, reflecting on how her views about prenuptial agreements have completely shifted. “I used to think when someone wanted me to sign a prenup, I took it as, ‘Do they not love me as much?’ And now that I’ve experienced it, and now learned and educated myself on it—now I get it.”
She made it clear she won’t make the same mistake again. “I will never—if I ever marry, which I doubt I will—but if I do, I’m not gonna be the ‘never say never’… or I will be the ‘never say never.’ That yeah, prenup no matter what. Doesn’t take my love away. It’s just because of what I’ve been through. I’m not gonna go through what I just went through.”
Nikki then got real about how powerless she felt during the divorce proceedings. “No. Honestly, it’s really, really hard. And you just realize there’s so much control you don’t have. You’re sitting there in mediation, and when you’ve built companies, and you’ve built an incredible savings and all these things—401k, all of it—and a person wants a piece of everything, and you’re sitting there fighting for your hard work… it’s hard. But I put myself in that position. I just never thought I’d be in that position.”
Nikki and Artem’s separation came after an August 2024 incident that led to his arrest on suspicion of felony domestic violence. The divorce was finalized in after restraining orders were filed, then dropped. The Napa County District Attorney declined to pursue charges.
Brie’s comments weren’t about gloating—they were about the pain of watching someone you love get hurt when you saw the signs all along. She made it clear: she tried to protect her sister.
