Brie Bella Seemingly Blames Bryan Danielson’s AEW Role for Holding Up Her WWE Return

Brie Bella isn’t holding back when it comes to the real reason fans haven’t seen her back in a WWE ring. While she hasn’t officially closed the door on returning, the former Divas Champion admitted that her husband Bryan Danielson’s role in AEW is a major hurdle—and she’s come to accept that.

Speaking on The Nikki and Brie Show, Brie revealed she’s constantly asked about a potential WWE comeback, especially at red carpet events or during quick interviews. Her go-to response is a cheeky one—but it’s more about convenience than truth.

“Let’s be open. Lately, I make a joke because when I’ve been on red carpets or interviews, there’s one question I always get asked—‘When will we see you back in the ring?’ As if I have that power. And I always make a joke because in interviews I don’t want to give a serious answer when it’s a quick question and they need a quick response. So I’ve constantly said, ‘Waiting on the call,’ which can sometimes be true but other times it’s just cheeky and sweet so I can move on to the main question.”

But behind the humor is a more serious truth. Brie said one of the biggest roadblocks preventing her return is her connection to AEW through Bryan Danielson.

“But I know my roadblock is the fact that my husband is with the rival company. And, you know, for some people it makes them uncomfortable at WWE thinking I’d be there when my husband is with AEW. And you know what? That’s okay. People have the right to feel. If they feel uncomfortable, they feel uncomfortable. Does it bum me out sometimes that I wish their feelings were different? Absolutely. But it doesn’t make me angry or bitter.”

For now, it seems Brie Bella is content with where things stand—even if fans are still waiting on that surprise return. She’s not chasing it, and she’s not playing the victim either. The door isn’t completely shut, but the reality of the wrestling business—and the politics that come with it—might keep her on the sidelines for good.
