Brian Cage is facing another major setback in his return to the ring—and this time, it’s his third knee surgery in less than a year.
The AEW and ROH star took to Instagram to reveal that he recently attempted to get medically cleared during WrestleDream weekend, but doctors discovered a serious issue with his right knee. Cage said the problem had been bothering him since his last procedure, and now it turns out the implant in his knee might not have fused with the bone like it was supposed to.
“I went to try to get cleared last month at WrestleDream, and that week we found out there was an issue with my right knee. It had been bothering me since my last surgery. Long story short, there’s an implant in my knee that may not be attached — it didn’t grow into the bone. They have to cut my knee open and plan for the worst while hoping for the best.”
The Machine didn’t sugarcoat how hard the news hit him. After months of grueling rehab and personal investment, hearing that he’ll need another operation crushed his momentum.
“So with that being said, going from one surgery to now having my third knee surgery in one year is beyond devastating. I’ve put so much work, effort, time, and money into everything. To find out this news was extremely depressing and upsetting. I’ve confirmed an appointment and will be getting surgery next week.”
Cage also admitted that his return to the ring is now completely up in the air, depending on how the surgery goes. For now, he’s focusing on staying mentally strong, but even he admits the emotional toll is mounting.
“It’s a big unknown when I’ll return because I’ll only know after the surgery. So I’ll keep working hard — that’s where I’m at right now. I’m trying to stay positive, but it’s definitely taken its toll on me.”
Cage hasn’t wrestled since earlier this year and was already deep in recovery mode when this latest complication emerged. He’s always been known for pushing through adversity, but this latest hurdle could be the toughest yet.
