Booker T is shutting down the narrative completely — making it clear that his NXT “Appreciation Night” had nothing to do with the Wrestling Observer Awards.
Speaking on the Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T directly addressed Bryan Alvarez’s comments suggesting the tribute was WWE’s response to Booker being voted Worst Television Announcer, where Alvarez claimed:
“Booker T Appreciation Night. I thought it was just going to be an angle. I didn’t think it had anything to do with the Observer Awards. I thought it was in Houston, so they were going to do something with Jasper Troy and Keanu Carver. But I watched the video and I was like, this is a response to the Observer Awards. I didn’t want to think that, but when I watched it and then someone brought it up to me — ‘You know they’ve been in Houston many times and didn’t do something like this.’”
That line of thinking didn’t sit well with Booker at all — and he immediately fired back without hesitation: “That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.” From there, Booker broke down why the claim doesn’t add up, calling out the contradiction in how people are trying to frame WWE’s intentions toward him.
“Someone thinking about the Wrestling Observer and Booker T Day being somehow connected — that’s ridiculous.”
He then took it a step further, pointing out how inconsistent that narrative sounds when you look at how he’s been treated at different times. Booker made it clear that, to him, the night was either genuine or it wasn’t — and he’s firmly on one side of that line.
“You can’t have it both ways. One day Triple H wants to bury me in the ground, and the next day he wants to put me over like I’m the best thing in the world. Those two just don’t go together. So either that night was real or it wasn’t, okay?”
He then shifted the focus to what the moment actually meant, explaining that the recognition had nothing to do with outside noise and everything to do with his impact on the business. And finally, Booker delivered his strongest message yet — directly warning against pushing the Observer narrative any further.
“It was a great night for the city and for me — to appreciate what I’ve done for the business, which has gotten a lot of guys over. So for them to give me my flowers, it had nothing to do with the Observer. Do not run with that.”
He didn’t stop there, doubling down and calling out the logic behind the claim. And to make absolutely sure there was no confusion, Booker closed it out with a definitive statement.
“Don’t do that, because you’re making yourself look really, really bad doing something like that. So no — it had zero to do with the Wrestling Observer.”
Bottom line — Booker T isn’t entertaining the theory for even a second. As far as he’s concerned, the NXT tribute was earned, real, and completely separate from any awards or outside criticism.
Do you think Booker T is right to shut this down completely, or do you believe there could still be something behind the timing of that NXT tribute? Drop your thoughts below and leave your feedback.
