Booker T is known for telling some outrageous wrestling stories, but this one might top them all.

During a recent episode of Reality of Wrestling, the WWE Hall of Famer looked back on WCW’s Hog Wild pay-per-view in 1996—an outdoor event held at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota—and recalled how Harlem Heat almost got run out of town by a furious biker crowd.

The event took place on August 10, 1996, in front of a sea of mostly white motorcycle enthusiasts, with fans surrounding the ring on their Harleys. Harlem Heat defended the WCW Tag Team Titles against the Steiner Brothers, but it was what happened outside the ring that nearly stole the show—and turned violent.

Booker described the surreal scene and how out of place he and his brother felt that night:

“Guys, it’s George of South Dakota. It was crazy. It was—it was the stupidest thing in the world. I kept asking myself, ‘How did I get here?’ It was like freaking being in the Wizard of Oz. I’m serious. It was that crazy.”

“Because like I said, we was the only brothers there. We was going against [the] Steiner Brothers and [the fans] circled around the ring. Everybody was on motorcycles and they rolled out on their Harleys.”

After Harlem Heat dominated the Steiners, the crowd turned hostile. And Booker made sure to pour gasoline on the fire.

“We beat the hell out [of] the Steiners. We almost started a riot, man. They started throwing rocks at us, man, and everything. The security had to get us out of there.”

“I remember telling the fans—like I say, it was nothing but bikers—and I remember getting the microphone and I said, ‘Listen, I don’t like rednecks. If you people are rednecks, boo me.’ And you know what? They booed me.”

Then came the part where even Booker admits he didn’t fully think it through.

“Well, you was asking for it, Book. Damn. I had to act dumb to see if it would work. I swear—I swear to God. I don’t know what I was thinking. I really don’t. But it worked.”

The chaos electrified the match—but escaping afterward became the real challenge.

“Got those guys. They were so riled up, man. It made that match so freaking awesome. Just getting out of there was the problem.”

“I can’t imagine—the real match happened after that match for sure. I’m sure they didn’t pick up the tag in here.”

Booker T’s story is a raw, unfiltered look at one of the wildest crowd reactions in WCW history—and proof that sometimes, the most unforgettable moments come when things go completely off-script.
