Booker T recently got a lot of people mad after he claimed that the gummy bears spot at Forbidden Door is why he doesn’t watch AEW. He ended up getting a lot of backlash and now he has responded to the same.

While speaking on the Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T responded to backlash after he commented on AEW’s controversial gummy bear spot at Forbidden Door. He explained that fans accused him of losing credibility when it comes to criticizing AEW, but he doesn’t see it that way.

Booker T admitted he hadn’t actually watched the match with the Young Bucks, but when Brad Gilmore told him the Bucks sold the gummy bears spot like a champ, he made it clear that’s why he doesn’t watch AEW.

“Some people said I lost all my credibility when it comes to criticizing AEW. The question that was posed to me was, did I watch the AEW match with the Young Bucks and the gummy bear spot? I said no, I didn’t see it—but did they sell the gummy bears? And Brad, you said they sold it like a champ. That’s one of the reasons why I don’t watch AEW.”

Booker explained that one of the reasons he doesn’t watch AEW regularly is because AEW has always tried to change how people watch professional wrestling. He said that’s fine for those who enjoy it, but for him, it simply doesn’t feel compelling.

“Because AEW—verbatim quote—is trying to change the way people watch pro wrestling. It’s been that way from day one, changing the perception of what wrestling is. My thing is, I get it. That’s those guys and what they want to do. So be it. But I don’t watch it because it doesn’t compel me.”

Booker T addressed the backlash he got and asked when he had ever actually criticized AEW, saying he hasn’t been negative or hateful toward them. He pointed out that fans often overreact to even small comments about AEW.

Booker T made it clear he doesn’t hate AEW. He just doesn’t talk about it much because as his mother taught him, if you don’t have something good to say, don’t say anything at all. He explained that things like the gummy bear spot or the spiked bat segment just aren’t his type of wrestling.

“When have I ever criticized AEW? Brad, do you remember me criticizing AEW? Even one time? I’m trying to figure out what negativity I’ve ever given AEW. What hate has Booker T ever given AEW? Can anyone formulate when I actually criticized them? Not maybe said something about AEW—but criticized? Because a lot of people are losing their damn minds whenever they hear someone say anything remotely toward AEW.

Now, have I mentioned AEW? Yes. Have I said things about AEW? Yes. But I don’t think it’s been negative criticism. Man, if I would have said the gummy bear spot was idiotic, can you imagine what the headline would be tomorrow?

I don’t want anyone to think I hate AEW—because I don’t. I don’t talk about AEW a lot because my mother told me, if you don’t have something good to say, don’t say anything at all. I comment on stuff like the gummy bear spot—it’s not my cup of tea. Just like the spiked bat spot—that’s not my cup of tea either.”

Booker T made it clear that AEW just isn’t his style of wrestling, but he doesn’t have any hate for the company. He simply doesn’t watch because it doesn’t interest him. Regardless, many people still won’t agree with what Booker T had to say and that’s not going to change anytime soon.
