Bobby Lashley is currently dominating the tag team division in AEW but he’s also a legitimate fighter who’s seen lots of success in MMA. While fans wonder if he’ll venture into MMA again, Lashley has now revealed he’s willing to face Jake Paul in a boxing match.
While speaking to WFAA, Bobby Lashley was asked if he’d be up for a fight with Jake Paul. Lashley said he’s a big fan of boxing even though his background is in wrestling, and that he’d actually like to have at least one boxing match.
The Almighty joked that they could hand him the script and they’d do whatever was needed, then clarified more seriously. He mentioned that someone he used to wrestle with had commented that he wouldn’t want to fight Jake Paul, but Lashley pushed back on that, saying if someone doesn’t respect him he doesn’t need to respect them either.
“I like boxing. I’m a big fan of boxing, even though I came from a wrestling background. I think I’d like to do maybe one boxing match too.
Yeah, you can give me the script and we can go ahead and do whatever we need to. No, no—I mean, you know, one of the guys I wrestled with made some kind of comment on it. He was like, ‘Yeah, you don’t wanna fight Jake Paul,’ and I was like, come on. Like first of all, if you don’t have respect for me, I don’t have to have respect for you anymore.”
Lashley stated that at the end of the day, fighting is fighting. He also gave Jake Paul credit for what he’s doing for boxing, saying he’s bringing a lot of attention to the sport and helping other fighters get paid well. Lashley admitted he might not be the right opponent for Jake Paul, because Paul should keep fighting more seasoned boxers to continue legitimizing his career.
Even then, Lashley made it clear that if a boxing opportunity came up, he’d take it immediately. He keeps himself in good shape, is always up to train, and would sign a contract without hesitation. He stated that he’s not the type to sign on just to talk trash since he genuinely loves competition and would welcome the chance to get in the ring with Jake Paul to see how good he really is.
“But at the end of the day, fighting is fighting. And Jake is doing some big things in the fight world. He’s helping out boxing tremendously because he’s bringing a lot of eyes to it, and the fighters that are fighting on his cards get paid really well. I don’t know if I’m the right matchup for him—I think what he needs is some more seasoned boxers to fight, because he’s good. Yeah, he’s actually good. So if he’s good, he needs to keep fighting boxers that can legitimize him more.
If I had an opportunity at boxing, 100%—I’d do it tomorrow. I stay in good shape. Let’s go hit some mitts, let’s do some sparring, let’s get ready for it. I’d be ready. I’d sign a contract. I’m not one of those guys that’s like, ‘I’m signing the contract because I wanna spit in your face and talk trash.’ I’m not that guy. I’m the kind of guy that—I love competition. So I’d love to be able to fight him and see what he’s all about, see how good he is.”
This comes after Bobby Lashley previously stated that a boxing match was on the horizon but it ultimately didn’t happen. Therefore, we’ll have to see whether The Almighty will end up squaring off against The Problem Child, as fans would love to see that happen.
