Blake Monroe’s move from AEW to WWE earlier this year was the fulfillment of her lifelong dream — but it hasn’t come without its share of hate from toxic fans. The NXT star has now addressed the backlash, calling out people who twist her words on social media.
Speaking on her YouTube channel, Monroe said she’s learned that no matter how much she gives, there will always be those who support her and those who try to tear her down.
“I can only do my best, and the people who are going to love me are going to love me, and the people who hate me will hate me no matter what. And, um, yeah, I just… I feel so overwhelmed about it because, I don’t know… I left my house like five, six years ago with this dream of being a WWE superstar. I used to go to all the WWE shows—I’d save all my money and travel to go to WrestleMania and the Royal Rumble. I just… I don’t even want to talk about stuff because I feel like every single thing I say gets yanked and taken out of context for these articles on Twitter and stuff. But I made a vlog before my debut to try to speak about these things. I feel like I’m scared to talk about it because people take it the wrong way or take me as ungrateful.”
Monroe, who has wrestled around the world and worked with top names in the business, says she wouldn’t change a single part of her wrestling journey. She wants fans to know her passion and dedication have always been genuine.
“But I’ve had the most amazing wrestling journey. I’m so lucky. I’ve been able to travel the world, wrestle some of the best wrestlers, tell amazing stories, work with amazing writers, work with amazing people, and have people take a chance on me. Not for one second would I ever change anything, and I’m not ungrateful—I’m so grateful. I feel like I’ve celebrated, and I’ve given 110% of my life and myself to every single wrestling job I’ve ever had. No matter what, I can say that I can retire one day and know that. And I feel like if you watch my work, you can see that. So I don’t want anything to be misconstrued, although it inevitably will.”
The comments come after Monroe faced criticism last month for a body-shaming promo directed at Jordynne Grace, which sparked even more online backlash. Despite that, Monroe says she’s proud to be part of WWE and isn’t going to let toxic fans dictate her happiness.
Blake Monroe isn’t backing down, and whether the internet likes it or not, she’s going to keep giving her all inside the ring.
