WWE Hall of Famer and NXT commentator Booker T isn’t holding back when it comes to BJ Ray’s release from WWE and LFG reality series. And according to Booker, what fans saw on-screen was exactly what BJ brought backstage—and that’s the problem.

BJ Ray appeared on both seasons of WWE LFG, where much of the drama centered around his intense clashes with coach Bubba Ray Dudley. His confidence and attitude were a consistent source of tension during the show, and now it seems that behavior continued when the cameras weren’t rolling.

On the latest episode of his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T—who also served as a coach on LFG—spoke candidly about BJ Ray’s potential and the reason he believes things didn’t work out.

“I always thought that kid had something. But in this business, you’ve gotta be able to apply yourself. It’s not gonna be like football, basketball, or any other structured sport. It’s not gonna be like that.”

Booker didn’t deny that Ray had a strong presence—but he made it clear that talent alone isn’t enough to survive in WWE.

“A guy like BJ Ray, he had the looks, he had the swag, the charisma, but everything else, he definitely was lacking in.”

And perhaps the most telling comment of all:

“The same way BJ Ray was on television, he was that way off television. You can’t be that way.”

Since his release, BJ Ray has taken to social media tagging AEW’s Tony Khan with messages like “Your boy is ready… call me” and referring to himself as “The Ratings Machine.” Whether it’s a bold play for attention or just more of the same attitude Booker referenced is up for debate.

BJ Ray’s WWE exit might have ended his LFG run, but the former prospect clearly isn’t done with wrestling—or self-promotion.

Do you think BJ Ray deserves a shot in AEW, or is his attitude too much for any locker room? Sound off in the comments and let us know what you think of “The Ratings Machine.”
