Bischoff on Wrestling Recap – Dolph Ziggler’s Time Off, Running WCW in 2000, Is Kayfabe Dead? More!

Bischoff says the end of his run in WCW was a complete trainwreck. He knew WCW was a failing company and he actually made a play to buy the company in an attempt to save it. The AOL/Time Warner merger was a disaster and as Vince Russo and Ed Ferrara came in as writers he was asked to leave.

Only a few months later he was asked to come back as company officials realized they made a huge mistake. They wrote him a cheque for almost $1 Million to buy out his old contract, and then signed him to a new contract. When Bischoff returned to the company he knew things had fallen too far and the company couldn’t be saved.

Another listener writes into the show and asks Bischoff if he considers ‘kayfabe’ to be dead. Bischoff says that ‘kayfabe’ is another term that bothers him because it’s a complicated term that most people fail to understand. He adds that all television programs try to keep their storylines secret so their audiences don’t have things spoiled for them before the program airs. It’s no different for professional wrestling, and in that sense kayfabe is alive and well.

However, there’s no denying that the curtain has been pulled back a lot over the last few years, and fans know more about the inner workings of the business now than ever before. He thinks that’s unfortunate to a degree, but the World is changing and the wrestling business was forced to change along with it.

That sums up today’s episode of Bischoff on Wrestling. You can listen to the show yourself anytime here, and I’ll catch ya tomorrow for another recap!
