Bischoff on Wrestling Recap – Cena’s Departure, Bullet Club’s Invasion, Details Surrounding Goldberg’s Debut in 1997, More!

Hausman informs that WWE sent out a survey recently, asking people to give their opinions on new potential WWE Network programming. Bischoff says he wouldn’t recommend showing more house shows on the Network because those shows can’t be compared to the production value of RAW or Smackdown Live. For this reason, viewers may start to look at those shows as ‘less than’, and that degrades the WWE brand overall.

Bischoff would be open to airing old TNA programming on the Network, specifically if it was tied into storylines of former TNA talents such as A.J. Styles or Samoa Joe. He also thinks replaying old wrestling shows featuring voice-over commentary from those involved could be interesting. An attitude era-esque program like ECW would certainly work on the Network in Bischoff’s opinion because people seem really interested in that type of thing.

Bischoff speaks about Goldberg’s WCW debut on September 22nd, 1997. He says that Goldberg wrestled dark matches for 4-6 months prior to his television debut and the audience always reacted very well to him. He says that there were never any other character ideas for Goldberg at that time.

Hausman asks Bischoff if there were any specific reasons that Bill DeMott was chosen as Goldberg’s opponent for his first television match. Bischoff doesn’t remember any specifics, but he points out that DeMott was a seasoned veteran who could bump well, especially for a big man.
