Alice “Big Al” Crowley may only be 23 years old, but the rising JCW star already has a decade of wrestling experience behind her — and she remembers exactly how some people reacted when she first started stepping into the ring as a teenager.

During an appearance on Wrestling Epicenter, Crowley opened up about what it was like juggling school life while pursuing a career in pro wrestling. According to her, the reaction from classmates was mixed when they realized she was showing up to class bruised and battered from wrestling matches.

Crowley recalled that many students didn’t initially understand what she was doing, and some even assumed something more serious was happening at home when they saw her injuries.

“Yeah, I'd go to school beat up. Some, I'm sure, thought I was getting beaten up at home. But, I was like, ‘No, guys. I wrestle!’”

While some classmates were impressed, Crowley admitted that not everyone treated her passion with respect at the time. A number of students mocked her for pursuing wrestling while she was still in school.

“Some of them made fun of me for that. Others thought I was cool because of it. But, they wouldn't say that out loud or in front of anybody. You know what I mean?”

Now that Crowley has built a name for herself in the wrestling world — including becoming a former JCW Women’s Champion — she says the attitude from those same people has changed dramatically. According to Crowley, some of the people who once criticized her are now reaching out after seeing her success in the ring.

“But now, some of the ones that made fun of me, they're hitting me up and they think it is cool now! Sometimes it just takes people some time to figure out what is cool!”

Crowley has continued to carve out her place in the industry with her mix of toughness, personality, and unique presentation — including riding a unicycle to the ring — and she remains focused on building her career even further.

Looking back, it seems the kid who showed up to school with wrestling bruises ended up proving a lot of doubters wrong along the way.
