Fans may have heard about Cody Rhodes’ infamous bus fire before WrestleMania XL, but Becky Lynch has her own nightmare story—and it happened on her birthday.
Speaking to Cody on What Do You Wanna Talk About?, Becky shared how her tour bus caught fire in the middle of the night as she was traveling from Tulsa to Iowa, with her daughter Roux onboard. What started as a quiet night quickly turned into chaos.
“It just happened to us. We were driving from Tulsa to Iowa. We were going to drive home that night. It was the middle of the night. It was my birthday, my 36th birthday. I hear, ‘Bang, bang, bang.’ It was Andy going, ‘Get out, there is a fire.’”
Becky grabbed her daughter and ran without even having time to put on shoes.
“I had Roux on the bus. I wrapped her in a blanket. I run in, I don’t have shoes on. We’re at this Kum & Go. We run into this place, we’re not wearing shoes. I have a little baby. Seth runs in. Nobody is wearing shoes. Everybody is cold.”
Thankfully, their driver Andy acted fast. He ran inside to get a fire extinguisher, but even that came with a twist.
“Andy runs in, ‘You got a fire extinguisher?’ The guy swipes a Snickers bar, ‘It’s over there.’ Andy runs out, ‘Zap, zap, zap,’ put outs the fire. That was it. We were safe.”
Everyone made it out okay, but the moment left them in complete shock—barefoot, shaken, and thankful.
“Andy comes back, everyone is white, shellshocked, got a little baby with me. All of us barefoot. The guy goes, ‘You gonna bring my fire extinguisher back?’”
Becky wrapped it up with a laugh, adding that even after saving the bus, “Andy still didn’t win driver of the year.”
This wild near-disaster could’ve been so much worse—but thanks to fast thinking, Becky, Seth, Roux, and the crew were safe. Still, that’s one birthday she’ll never forget.
