Becky Lynch is officially part of the cast of Happy Gilmore 2, and she’s not holding back about how special the experience was. The WWE superstar appears in the trailer for the upcoming Netflix sequel, which dropped on May 31, and now she’s opening up about working alongside Adam Sandler.
Speaking to Sports Illustrated’s Rick Ucchino, Lynch reflected on her childhood memories of watching the original Happy Gilmore—and how surreal it was to go from renting the movie in Ireland to filming its sequel in Hollywood.
“I remember going to the video shop in Ireland and renting the first one and watching it with my brother and Dad. Nearly 30 years later I was on set for the second. That’s pretty surreal,” she said.
Lynch made it clear she was a longtime Sandler fan, and being part of his project only deepened her respect for the comedy legend.
“Loved Adam Sandler growing up. Still do. Actually, working with him made me love him even more. Watching how passionate, hilarious and dialed in he is at all times, and witnessing how he creates such a fun and warm working environment, he keeps everything loose but laser focused at the same time. It’s really quite incredible.”
Becky’s involvement adds major star power to a cast that already includes AEW’s MJF, who plays Gordie, one of Happy Gilmore’s sons. He’s seen in the trailer participating in a chaotic car-beating scene, bringing plenty of attitude to the film’s over-the-top energy.
The sequel was officially unveiled during Netflix’s Tudum event, with both WWE and AEW represented in the spotlight. WWE’s Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley even needed CM Punk to step in and separate them during a brief backstage confrontation at the event.
With Becky Lynch stepping deeper into the entertainment world, this marks another major crossover moment for pro wrestling and Hollywood.
