Becky Lynch has finally opened up about her WWE absence in 2024 — and it turns out, it was a choice she made to prioritize her mental health and family.
Speaking during WWE Unreal Season 2 on January 20, 2026, Lynch explained that she personally requested time off before her contract expired in mid-2024. Reflecting on that period, she admitted she was completely burnt out after pushing herself non-stop since returning from maternity leave.
She recalled how life on the road had begun taking an emotional toll, especially on her relationship with her daughter. Lynch said she noticed her daughter was upset whenever she came home, which made her realize she needed to pause.
“2024 was a year where I was pretty burnt out, and I said, ‘Okay, I think this is a good pause.’ I had been going full throttle since I came back after having my daughter. I love WWE, but I was away from her quite a bit. I felt like when I came back home, she was mad at me, and I hated that.”
According to Lynch, she approached Triple H in May 2024 with her decision, informing him that her contract was ending and she wanted a break. Triple H was understanding, agreeing to pause the deal with the intent to revisit it later.
“In May 2024, I told Hunter, ‘Look, my contract’s up and I want to take some time off.’ He said, ‘Okay, we’ll pause it, give you a little bit of time, and then we’ll renegotiate the contract when you’re ready.’ So that’s what we did.”
As previously reported by Fightful Select, Lynch officially became a free agent on June 1, 2024, after choosing not to sign a new deal before her contract expired. She would ultimately return at WrestleMania 41 in 2025.
Now that she’s speaking honestly about that decision, it’s clear Lynch’s time away wasn’t the result of backstage drama or contract disputes—it was a deliberate step to reset, reconnect, and recharge.
