Former WWE star Baron Corbin—now going by Bishop Dyer—didn’t hold back when talking about feeling disrespected during NXT’s recent Homecoming event at Full Sail University.
The show, which celebrated the legacy of NXT by featuring returns and tributes to talent from its original Full Sail era, left Corbin feeling more than a little slighted. Despite being a major player during NXT’s formative years and recently returning to capture tag team gold with Bron Breakker, Corbin was noticeably absent from the tribute packages aired during the show.
“So in brutal honesty, I was a little butthurt about the whole thing,” he admitted on Off The Ropes with Jonathan Coachman. That opening package they did for the show was super dope, and they had a lot of Superstars from the past, the middle and the present on it, and I didn’t make the cut.”
He did notice one odd form of recognition—just not the kind he wanted.
“My T-shirt did, somebody was wearing a Baron Corbin T-shirt, but I was a little butthurt in that aspect.”
Corbin acknowledged that being released might’ve played a role in WWE’s decision to keep his name out of the mix.
“I know it’s still fresh in WWE being as I finished up in January, and sometimes you’ve gotta kinda give it a year or so before they start acknowledging your existence again.”
But the former NXT Tag Team Champion couldn’t help but point out how deep his roots with the brand go.
“With that show, I was a main staple in the beginning of NXT, when they were counting the seconds to my matches. I was one of the originators who helped grow that brand. I was on every show. I was on the first live one in Brooklyn with 16,000 fans.”
Even after the initial frustration faded, Corbin still joked about one particular inclusion that irked him:
“I even texted (Johnny) Russo the writer and I was like, ‘Yo, Mojo Rawley makes the cut of the video, and I don’t?’ I was, like I said, a little butthurt. He goes, ‘He was in the Camel Clutch.’ I was like, ‘I don’t care, he made it!’”
Corbin’s NXT journey spanned over a decade, including a full-circle return in 2024 where he and Bron Breakker formed the Wolf Dogs and captured the tag titles. While he may be out of WWE now, it’s clear he still holds his time in NXT close—and wanted to be part of the celebration.
