The March 3rd edition of Monday Night Raw was truly one of the most memorable episodes in a long time, as it saw IYO Sky win the Women’s World Championship. In fact, it appears that backstage rules were bent for SKY’s title win.

While speaking to The Toronto Sun, Natalya talked about the backstage reaction to IYO SKY’s title win. Natalya stated that everyone was so excited for IYO that the entire group backstage watched the match from Gorilla, the area right before the wrestlers walk through the curtain.

Natalya noted that normally, the area is off-limits unless someone is about to walk through the curtain, but Triple H made an exception because he knew how much everyone wanted to see IYO SKY vs. Rhea Ripley up close.

Following the conclusion of the match, when IYO walked back, the excitement was still high. Natalya revealed how happy she was for her, and the entire backstage crew shared in the celebration.

“We were all so excited for IYO. All of us backstage were watching the match—we actually watched it from Gorilla. That’s the place you go right before you walk through the curtain. It’s usually off-limits unless you’re about to go out, but Triple H knew how excited we were to see IYO vs. Rhea.

We all wanted to sit there, watch it up close, and be part of the moment. When IYO walked back after the match, I was just so excited for her. Everyone was happy.”

Towards the end of the match, Rhea Ripley tried to hit a Rip Tide from the top rope, but Bianca Belair distracted her. This gave IYO SKY a chance to counter with a hurricanrana. She then hit her Over The Moonsault to win the match and become the new WWE Women’s World Champion.

SKY also made history after her title win as she became the first woman to achieve a Grand Slam in two major promotions, holding gold in both WWE and STARDOM. With WrestleMania 41 on the horizon, we will have to wait and see how WWE will book SKY and Bianca Belair’s feud in the coming weeks, as they could also add Rhea Ripley to the mix.

What do you think about IYO SKY’s championship win and the backstage reaction? Do you believe she will retain the title at WrestleMania 41, or could we see a new champion emerge? Drop your thoughts in the comments below!
