Thea Hail shocked the pro wrestling world when she beat Blake Monroe for the NXT Women’s North American Title. This was such a shock, it wasn’t even a part of the plan. Backstage reaction to Thea Hail’s title win is starting to come to light, and it sounds like almost nobody saw it coming.
During an interview with Going Ringside, Kendal Grey was asked about the change in the NXT Women’s Division after Thea Hail defeated Blake Monroe for the title. When the topic came up, Grey made it clear the locker room was caught off guard.
“So I want to get your thoughts on a bit of a shakeup in the women’s division in NXT. Just this week, Blake Monroe loses her title. Has this been the buzz in the locker room?”
“It—it—we were all shook. We—it was speechless for all of us. Um, but yeah, big, you know, upset for Thea. So happy for Thea, you know, and we’ll just have to see what happens next.”
Kendal Grey’s response painted a picture of a locker room that didn’t have much time to process what happened. After all, this happened on live television. It wasn’t something people were predicting ahead of time, so the response was rather organic.
“Was everyone just kind of shocked in the locker room when she pulled that off?”
“Yeah, we were shocked. I mean, you know, Thea, she’s a good wrestler, so we knew she had it in her, but Blake’s also a good wrestler, and she was really doing good. And so, no one expected it, and it happened, and now we’ll have to see. They’re having a rematch soon, so we’ll have to see what happens next in that match.”
The reaction backstage in NXT wasn’t split, because pretty much everyone saw the same thing and was very surprised. It was a shocking scene across the board. She made it clear that while people respect both wrestlers, but that result still landed out of nowhere.
A rematch is already coming up for Blake Monroe, so only time will tell how NXT handles this situation. A strong fan reaction toward Thea Hail could really do her some favors. Obviously, this is a very unique situation in the pro wrestling world.
