AEW Dynamite kicked off its January 22 episode in Knoxville, Tennessee, with an explosive face-to-face moment between Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay that had the crowd on fire.
The intense opening segment saw Omega and Ospreay take on the Don Callis Family in a chaotic brawl, ending with both men taking insane dives off a lighting truss and balcony before laying down a challenge for a tag team match at Grand Slam Australia on February 15.
Fightful Select reports that the energy backstage after the segment was through the roof, with everyone feeling the electricity from the live crowd. The atmosphere was said to be very good, as the segment delivered exactly what AEW needed—a hot start with massive crowd engagement.
“As one would expect, the vibe was very good after the hot opening segment for AEW Dynamite.”
The segment itself was absolute mayhem. Ospreay distanced himself from the Callis Family, but that didn’t stop Don Callis from stirring the pot, leading to Takeshita and Kyle Fletcher ambushing Omega. Just when things looked bad, Ospreay ran in to help Omega, but the brawl spiraled out of control, spilling into the crowd. Lance Archer, Brian Cage, and the rest of the Callis Family jumped in, leading to some insane moments.
Omega and Ospreay sent the crowd into a frenzy with death-defying dives, with Ospreay leaping off a balcony and Omega launching himself off a lighting rig. The AEW fans erupted in chants as Omega took the mic and declared war on Callis’ crew, setting the stage for a massive tag match against Fletcher and Takeshita at Grand Slam Australia.
With the locker room buzzing about the energy from this segment, the question now is—was this just the beginning of something even bigger? Could this lead to another one-on-one showdown between Omega and Ospreay in AEW? Drop your thoughts in the comments!
