Stokely Hathaway is officially back—and he’s riding with FTR.

After nearly six months off TV, Hathaway made his return on the April 24 episode of AEW Dynamite, stepping out alongside Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler to manage the former tag champs as they launch into a full heel run. Fans who’ve been wondering where he’s been just got their answer—and it turns out this pairing has been in the works for a while.

According to backstage sources vai Fightful Select, the idea of Hathaway managing FTR was first pitched last year. Before he disappeared from AEW programming, Hathaway was seen “scouting tag teams,” including being spotted in the background of an FTR match during one of his vignettes. This wasn’t some sudden pivot—this storyline was nearly finalized months ago.

Plans reportedly shifted when The Outrunners gained momentum. AEW decided to lean into their popularity at the time, delaying Hathaway’s involvement with FTR. But now, with the timing right and FTR embracing a darker edge, the company is ready to revisit the original creative direction.

So far, Hathaway hasn’t spoken publicly about his return—but his presence immediately raised eyebrows. The alliance gives FTR another mouthpiece, and puts Hathaway right back in the center of a top-tier storyline.
