A new update has surfaced regarding Brian “Road Dogg” James’ reported departure from WWE, and it appears the longtime company figure made the decision himself.
Earlier reports indicated that Road Dogg had left WWE as the company continues to adjust its creative structure behind the scenes. However, according to PWInsider, the situation may not have been a firing at all.
The outlet reports that the word circulating internally is that James made the choice to step away from his role on the creative team, where he had been working on the SmackDown brand.
“The word making the rounds is that he made the decision to leave his position on the company's creative team, where he had been working on the Smackdown brand.”
Road Dogg had been involved with WWE’s creative process for years, returning to the company in 2014 and eventually becoming a key part of the writing staff. Most recently, he served as a co-lead writer for SmackDown and played a role in shaping the brand’s weekly television presentation.
His reported departure also comes during a period of internal changes within WWE’s writing team. Alexandra Williams recently announced that she has been promoted to Vice President and Lead Writer for Monday Night RAW after previously working as a senior writer and producer. Sharing the update publicly, Williams confirmed the new role on LinkedIn.
“I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Vice President/Lead Writer at WWE!”
Her updated description outlines the scope of the job, which involves overseeing the creative direction for WWE’s flagship weekly show.
“As VP and Lead Writer for WWE’s flagship live program, I oversee all creative development for Monday Night RAW — one of cable television’s longest-running and highest-rated weekly shows.”
While WWE has not officially addressed Road Dogg’s departure, the latest report suggests his exit was voluntary rather than the result of a company decision.
Road Dogg has worn many hats in WWE over the years, both as a legendary tag team performer during the Attitude Era and later as a producer and creative voice behind the scenes.
