Adam Cole is sidelined once again, this time with another concussion—just shortly after returning from a previous one. The injury allegedly occurred during his recent match against Kyle Fletcher, and it didn’t go unnoticed backstage in AEW.
During The Hump, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful addressed the reaction among AEW talent after Fletcher struck Cole with two hard shots to the head. Cole was already on thin ice health-wise, and the timing of this incident didn’t sit right with everyone.
“There were definitely talent who asked, ‘Do you know which spot it was?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, it was the lariat.’ And they went, ‘Yeah.’ It was almost like it was done as a message.”
Sapp noted that although Kyle Fletcher is considered well-liked backstage, actions like this have serious consequences. Intentional or not, the message was clear—wrestlers need to protect each other at all times.
“Now, people like Kyle Fletcher—he’s a really well-liked guy—but sometimes guys want to make sure it’s known: even if you’re a good dude, you’ve got to protect your people better.”
This incident follows a string of physical moments between Fletcher and Cole. Before the stiff lariat on AEW Collision, Fletcher had already taken heat for a botched apron powerbomb that many felt was reckless and dangerous.
AEW has already dealt with heavy criticism for its handling of in-ring safety, and Cole’s latest injury is only fueling the discussion. With no confirmed timeline for his return, fans are left hoping Adam Cole can fully recover—and that AEW takes steps to avoid these kinds of situations in the future.
