Athena is stepping back into the ROH ring with gold on the line, as she’s officially set to defend her ROH Women’s Championship against Mina Shirakawa at Death Before Dishonor on August 29th. The match was confirmed on August 14th, locking in a showdown that already has plenty of history behind it.
Shirakawa has been out of action since AEW All In after suffering a broken hand — an injury she sustained when Athena hit her with the O Face during their match. Shirakawa still enters this bout as the reigning Interim ROH Women’s Television Champion, giving this clash an extra layer of intrigue.
Athena will also be pulling double duty this month, as she’s scheduled to challenge “Timeless” Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s Title at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on August 24th, just five days before her ROH title defense.
Athena and Shirakawa’s collision promises to be a fierce battle fueled by unfinished business, with the added twist of Shirakawa coming back from a serious injury looking to take down the woman who caused it.
