Ashante “Thee” Adonis parted ways with WWE after his contract expired recently. Following his departure, Ashante made it clear he was frustrated at not being able to show his talent in WWE.
While speaking to the Limping Ain’t Easy podcast, Ashante Adonis talked about his career and what he wants to do next. He said he sees himself as both a performer and an actor, and that he belongs in front of the camera. He wished he had more chances to show that side of himself in WWE, but knows it wasn’t his choice to make.
“I’m a performer. I’m an actor. I know I’m supposed to be in front of the camera, and I really wish that I could have shown that more in WWE — but that is not up to me.”
Adonis stated that he wanted to act from a young age, and his interest in wrestling grew when his cousin moved in and started watching it. He believes acting and wrestling are connected, and one can lead to the other.
“I’ve always known I wanted to act… and once my cousin moved in with us and started watching pro wrestling, then I was like, ‘Oh, I want to do both of these.’ And actually, they — you know — one can lead into the other.”
Adonis said he doesn’t like staying in his comfort zone because you have to push yourself into hard situations to grow. He learned this even as a teenager and enjoys a challenge, never wanting life to be too easy.
That’s why he’s excited for this new chapter in his life after his WWE exit. He knows it will be tough, but he’s ready for it and since his life has never been easy, he’s not afraid of the challenge.
“I’m the type of person, I can tell you right now, I don’t like being in my comfort zone. Comfort zone is… you have to purposely make yourself uncomfortable in order for you to grow as a human being. And I sort of knew this even as a teenager. And I like a challenge — I don’t want anything to be easy. That’s why I’m excited about this whole new journey… to start this whole next chapter, this whole next… because I know it’s not going to be easy. And I love that. I love that. Trust me — I’m all here for it, man. My life has not been easy at all.”
WWE ultimately let Ashante’s contract expire instead of releasing him since WWE believed it made more sense to ride out the deal than cut him and start a 90-day non-compete payout. Nonetheless, only time will tell what’s next in store for Adonis as the world is truly his oyster.
