Ash By Elegance is making it clear that one of the biggest differences between WWE and TNA wasn’t just the roster or the matches — it was the creative freedom she found after making the move.
While speaking on the Generation of Wrestling Podcast, Ash explained that things finally clicked for her once she arrived in TNA and realized how differently matches and characters were handled. She said that instead of being handed detailed instructions, she was given the freedom to build her own ideas and shape her performances in ways she never experienced before.
She described how that shift stood out immediately when she was first told to prepare for a match with minimal direction, something she said was very different from the structured environment she had grown used to.
“Over here in TNA. Like I said, my personal concierge and I, we would just like we would be like told, ‘Okay, you have a match against like Rosemary.’ And that was like it. That was like, ‘Okay, you have a match with Rosemary. Okay, figure it out.’ And then me and my personal concierge would like sit there and I'm like, ‘Oh, this is way different from like WWE. It usually is like you have to do this and then at, you know, 30 seconds to break, we need you to hit like…’ So it was like all mapped out.”
Ash went on to explain that the open-ended nature of TNA’s creative process allowed her to experiment and enjoy wrestling in a way she hadn’t been able to before. Instead of following strict scripts, she was encouraged to think creatively and focus on what would entertain fans.
“Coming into TNA, it was like, ‘Okay, here's what you got. Fill in the rest.’ So, I was like, damn, I can have fun with this. I could be like have creative freedom. And I feel as though I know what works. I had had, you know, 12 to 13 years in the business. I know what's going to entertain.”
She also described how that creative freedom led to unique character-driven ideas that helped define her current persona. By working closely with her creative partners, she was able to introduce unusual and entertaining elements that helped her stand out from the pack.
“So like once we feel it, then we like crank it up a little more… he's like, ‘Let's add holy water. Let's do garlic cloves with her. Let's do this, you know, do that.’ And it works… I've had so much fun. Whereas in WWE, I don't know if it was always like just trying to follow a script and that's it.”
Ash By Elegance’s comments highlight how much creative freedom can impact a performer’s confidence and enjoyment in the ring. For her, the ability to think outside the box and build her character without strict limitations became the turning point that helped redefine her career.
