Hiromu Takahashi’s NJPW run officially came to an end after he announced his departure back in February — and now it looks like WWE could be next.

The longtime junior heavyweight star confirmed earlier this year that he would be leaving New Japan Pro-Wrestling following years as one of the division’s biggest names, closing a major chapter in his career.

“After careful consideration and discussions with NJPW management, Hiromu Takahashi, who has been a long standing member of the NJPW roster will leave New Japan Pro-Wrestling. We apologise to fans for the sudden nature of this announcement. Hiromu’s final scheduled appearance with NJPW will be at New Beginning in Osaka on February 11. New Japan Pro-Wrestling wishes Hiromu Takahashi the very best in his future activities and invites fans to show their support on his remaining appearances with NJPW.”

Now, a new report on March 18, 2026 suggests that the decision is already pointing him toward WWE. According to Super J-Cast & Case Lowe, Takahashi is expected to sign with WWE following his NJPW exit, with plans currently indicating he would begin his run in NXT.

Starting in NXT would give Takahashi time to adjust to WWE’s style before potentially moving to the main roster — something the company has done with several international talents. The timing is also notable, as this comes amid reports that EVIL is expected to join WWE as well, suggesting the company could be bringing in multiple NJPW names.

Nothing has been officially confirmed yet, but the direction is becoming clear. Hiromu Takahashi wrapped up his NJPW chapter in February — and if this report holds, his next move could bring him straight into WWE’s system sooner rather than later.
