Anna Jay’s status with AEW may be reaching a critical point, and a new update suggests her next move could come sooner than originally believed — with no guarantees about where she ends up.

While earlier reporting indicated Anna Jay’s AEW contract would expire in Spring 2026, Dave Meltzer has now clarified in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that her deal is actually up early in the new year, and discussions internally are already shifting.

Meltzer noted that talk backstage is that Anna Jay is open to exploring other options once her contract expires, but her recent absence from AEW television has not gone unnoticed.

“Anna Jay’s contract is up early in the new year and talk is that she’s open to other options. It is notable she hasn’t been on television since losing in the tag team tournament. And she’s not on the women focused on.”

That absence may not be accidental. Meltzer suggested that if Anna Jay does not sign a new deal, AEW’s booking philosophy could keep her off TV entirely.

“If she doesn’t sign a new deal, I would doubt she would be put back on television since that’s Tony Khan’s M.O.”

As for WWE, Meltzer cautioned that while the company is often mentioned as a potential landing spot for former AEW talent, it’s far from automatic — especially in the women’s division.

“Obviously WWE, but WWE has of late only expressed interest in people they see as top of the line talent from AEW or TNA… talent from each side that has inquired has been told they are full.”

He added that exceptions are made, but only when WWE believes someone can truly move the needle.

“There are always exceptions if they think you are a difference maker.”

Even if WWE interest materialized, Meltzer noted that Anna Jay would almost certainly start in NXT, where competition is already fierce.

“She’d start almost for sure in NXT, and while everyone gets the honeymoon pop, NXT is so loaded and also filled with so many top level athletes.”

With AEW television time drying up, WWE not actively shopping for depth, and her contract now reportedly expiring much sooner than expected, Anna Jay may soon find herself at a career crossroads.
