Andrade El Idolo shocked fans with his return to AEW earlier this month, attacking Kenny Omega and joining the Don Callis Family. But just as quickly as he arrived, Andrade has completely vanished from storylines—and now even insiders are unsure what’s going on.
On the October 14 episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer discussed Andrade’s absence during a segment about the Don Callis Family’s birthday celebration and AEW’s crossover with NJPW. Alvarez pointed out that Andrade was not only missing from the televised segment but hasn’t been mentioned at all in recent weeks.
“You saw the Don Callis thing, right? The birthday party thing? So they did that—Don turned 62. All the Don Callis Family members were there—except for Takeshita, who was in Japan, and the mystery man Andrade, who is also not mentioned at all anymore.”
Meltzer immediately questioned the situation.
“Where in the hell is this guy?”
Alvarez confirmed that Andrade had simply disappeared from AEW after his debut, even being pulled from a scheduled match against LA Park.
“Something happened. He disappeared. He made the one appearance and then completely vanished. He’s never mentioned. And he had a match coming up with LA Park—gone from that show, too.”
Meltzer admitted that people close to AEW know what’s happening but are refusing to talk about it publicly.
“There are people who know. But they’re keeping quiet. They’re not telling me. But they know.”
When Alvarez pressed him on whether that was really the case, Meltzer doubled down.
“I know people who know. They won’t tell me, though. So it forces me to speculate—which I’m not going to do.”
Meltzer closed by saying Andrade is still booked for Puerto Rico, where he’s expected to challenge for the WWC Universal Championship.
“As far as I know, he’s still booked for a show on Saturday in Puerto Rico. He’s supposed to be challenging for the Universal Title down there… we’ll see if that happens.”
For now, Andrade’s status in AEW is up in the air. Whether this is a creative pivot, personal issue, or something else entirely remains unclear—and fans are left waiting to see if his Puerto Rico booking even goes ahead.
