Alexa Bliss is the mastermind behind one of WWE’s most unexpected tag team success stories — her partnership with Charlotte Flair.

In a recent interview with In The Kliq, the current WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion admitted that the idea to team up with Flair wasn’t handed to her — she pitched it herself after noticing both women were in creative limbo.

“It’s been so fun working with Charlotte. This was something that came about very randomly,” Bliss said. “We were talking to creative, and I kinda like threw it out there.”

She explained how it all started after looking at a list of names WWE creative gave her — a list of wrestlers who needed a new direction.

“They gave me a list of names of people who were in this little bubble of needing storylines, and I was like, ‘What about Charlotte? We have this long past, that could be a fun dynamic, these two people who don’t normally get along with other people or have success with other people, getting stuck together,’” Bliss shared.

It was a gamble, but it paid off. Bliss and Flair are now WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions after winning the gold at SummerSlam. And according to Bliss, the real-life chemistry between the two has made it even more fun behind the scenes.

“It’s been super fun, and we’ve been having fun with it. Our entrances, our little pushing and shoving, that’s just us improv-ing and just having fun with it,” she said. “I was right – we would be successful, because now we’re Tag Team Champions.”

What makes the duo work so well? Bliss believes it’s their oddball pairing that keeps fans invested.

“It’s fun to see the mesh of the two come together as this kind of odd couple, and allies of convenience,” she said. “I think that’s why it naturally resonates with audiences, that we’re having fun and it allows the audience to have fun with us.”

Since capturing the titles, Bliss and Flair have been defending them across both SmackDown and NXT, proving that even the most unexpected alliances can turn into gold — literally.
