Alexa Bliss Reveals How Last-Minute Royal Rumble Return Came Together Overnight

Alexa Bliss made her shocking return at the Royal Rumble this year, which was her first appearance in two years. Interestingly enough, Bliss has now revealed that her return was made at the very last minute.

While speaking on the Nikki and Brie Show, Alexa Bliss was asked if it was short notice when she showed up for her Royal Rumble return and when exactly she got the call. She explained that it happened at around midnight the night before. Even then, it wasn’t fully decided until about 4 a.m. By 5 a.m., she got another call telling her she needed to be on a plane by 10 a.m.

Bliss ended up flying to Cincinnati instead of Indianapolis so no one would spot her. From there she was driven in, had to stay covered up, and got snuck into a back room where hair and makeup were already waiting. She didn’t arrive until about 4 p.m., just two hours before the first match was supposed to start, and someone was immediately ready to do her hair. Bliss hadn’t slept at all through the night, hadn’t eaten, and was completely exhausted.

“I got the call at like midnight the night before. Yeah, midnight the night before. Oh my gosh. So, I got the call at midnight and it wasn’t even fully decided until like 4:00 a.m. Then I get a call at 5:00, and they’re like, ‘All right, we need you on a plane by 10:00 a.m.’

I flew to Cincinnati, because it wasn’t in Indianapolis, so no one would see me. Got driven in, had to cover up, got snuck into a back room. There was hair and makeup waiting. I didn’t even get there until 4:00. You guys know how this stuff works, right? The first match was starting at 6:00, so I got there at 4:00, someone was ready to do my hair, and I hadn’t slept because this was an all-night process.”

At around 3 a.m., she was at home on the phone trying not to wake her baby while rummaging through old gear by the closet, trying to figure out what still fit her. At 4 a.m., she told her husband Ryan Cabrera, she thought she was going to the Rumble.

Cabrera was half-asleep and confused, so when she asked if he wanted to come, he was too tired to process it. That’s why she ultimately decided to just go by herself.

Alexa Bliss also revealed that no one knew she was there, not even the other women in the locker room. They didn’t find out until she was already in Gorilla position, about to walk out.

“I hadn’t eaten, I was deliriously tired. I’m in my house at 3:00 a.m. on the phone trying not to wake up the baby because my gear is next to her closet. I’m looking through old gear like, ‘All right, what still fits me?’

At 4:00 a.m. I told Ryan, ‘Hey, I think I’m going to the Rumble.’ And he’s like, ‘Huh?’ I go, ‘Do you want to come?’ And he’s like, ‘I’m so tired. What?’ And I go, ‘Never mind.’ So I just got on a plane and went. No one knew I was there. Not even the girls. They didn’t know until I was in Gorilla. No one knew. No one.”

It was all worth it as fans were incredibly happy to see Little Miss Bliss back on WWE television after so long. That’s why it just goes to show keeping surprises is what really matters in wrestling and fans are glad Bliss’ return was kept a secret.
