Alberto Del Rio’s legal battle may be heading toward a potential agreement—and that possibility is now driving the biggest update in his case.
Del Rio remains behind bars after a judge ordered pretrial detention following his domestic violence arrest in San Luis Potosí. But a sudden move to push his next hearing forward has sparked speculation that both sides could be exploring some kind of resolution.
According to Radio Fórmula MX, the timeline around the case is shifting quickly—and that’s where things get interesting. Mexican journalist Flor Rubio, who has worked with Del Rio and his wife, explained that the hearing may now happen sooner than expected, despite an earlier request to extend the legal timeframe.
“‘El Patrón’ is in pretrial detention. It is said that the hearing will be moved up tomorrow. They requested an extension of the constitutional term, which expires on Sunday at one in the afternoon, but it seems they are asking for an earlier hearing, and it could be tomorrow.”
That kind of move doesn’t usually happen without a reason—and Rubio pointed directly at what it might signal, noting that an agreement is in play.
“If that’s the case, it’s because I think there’s some kind of agreement, because if you’re asking for a doubling of the constitutional term to gather evidence and you’re ahead of that term, it’s likely that there will be some kind of agreement.”
At the center of the situation is Marie Carmen Rodríguez, who Rubio says has been in direct contact with her. While talk of an agreement is now on the table, the personal reality behind the case is far more complicated. Even with those concerns, Rubio made it clear that justice remains the priority—and that releasing Del Rio could create further risk.
“I don’t know what kind of agreement, she already told me that she doesn’t want any kind of financial agreement, that she doesn’t want to grant forgiveness, but what is that she is worried about the children of the ‘Boss’ who are minors and if he were to stay in jail they would probably go to a children’s home, because they have no one to take care of them. I don’t know if the settlement means he’ll face the trial while free and not in prison (…) She wants justice, that’s why she reported him. She arrived at the hearing with a black eye and bruised face. We have to wait. I believe he should face trial in prison because otherwise Carmen is at risk.”
Authorities have already confirmed that Del Rio was arrested in the act after his partner reportedly called for help during an alleged assault. Prosecutors are now evaluating multiple charges, including gender-based violence, which could carry serious prison time if proven. There’s also a financial angle, with reports suggesting damages could reach up to one million pesos.
Right now, Del Rio remains in custody—but the sudden push to move the hearing forward has changed the tone of the case. If an agreement is being discussed, the next court appearance could change everything.
