With WWE set to become involved with AAA, many fans have wondered what that means for controversial names like Alberto El Patron. While WWE will inherit existing AAA contracts as part of the takeover, it doesn’t mean everyone currently on the AAA roster is welcome in WWE’s future plans.

During a Fightful Select Q&A, Sean Ross Sapp addressed El Patron’s standing within AAA and where WWE currently stands on bringing him into the fold. “He is still in AAA as an influential member of that team,” Sapp said. But when it comes to WWE? “WWE in previous years has been very hesitant to work with him, to the point where they have people in the company outright said no we’re not going to.”

Despite that, AAA just announced Alberto El Patron vs. Hijo del Vikingo for an upcoming event just a week before AAA Worlds Collide—making it clear AAA is still pushing El Patron as a top name. However, that doesn’t mean WWE plans to feature him once they officially assume control.

Initial reports from Super Luchas sparked speculation that WWE had already “signed” a group of AAA talent, including El Patron. That narrative was quickly challenged by Lucha Blog, who clarified: “WWE did not ‘give’ Alberto a contract. AAA signed Alberto to a contract when they decided to build the promotion around him for the last year, and WWE will assume that contract when they take over the company. I don’t think decisions have been made past that.”

With WWE set to be involved in AAA, Alberto El Patron’s future is anything but clear. He’s still featured prominently in AAA’s current plans, but that doesn’t guarantee he’ll transition into WWE’s spotlight once the takeover is complete. For now, his involvement is tied strictly to AAA, and whether that role expands—or ends—once WWE steps in remains to be seen.
