Alberto Del Rio is back in the headlines, and—shockingly—it’s not for anything positive. The former WWE Champion has been suspended for 180 days by the Tijuana Wrestling Commission following a wild altercation with fans at an AAA event that spiraled out of control.
According to Rob Viper, things went south after Del Rio’s match at the Auditorio when he lost his cool at someone in the crowd. Del Rio attempted to jump the guardrail but failed, so he found another spot where he could climb over. Once on the other side, he threw a chair at someone off-camera before security tried to step in.
That’s when things completely unraveled. A fan retaliated by hurling a chair back at Del Rio, hitting him in the head, which escalated into a chaotic brawl with multiple objects flying. During the melee, reports say an elderly woman was struck by a chair and had to be taken to the hospital.
“The Tijuana commission suspended Alberto Del Rio for 180 days (~6 months) for his role in an incident on Friday at the Auditorio. AAA has 2 TV tapings coming up in Baja California but those are in Ensenada & Rosarito so I don’t think (?) it affects those… One story going around is an old lady got hit by a flying chair at some point & ended up in hospital.”
AAA has upcoming shows in Ensenada and Rosarito, and it’s unclear if Del Rio’s suspension only applies to Tijuana or extends further. Either way, this latest incident adds yet another chapter to Del Rio’s long list of controversies, proving once again that trouble seems to follow him everywhere.
What do you think—does Del Rio deserve this suspension, or should AAA cut ties with him for good? Drop your thoughts in the comments!
