Alberto Del Rio is already facing fallout from his recent arrest—and it’s now impacting his wrestling bookings as he has been suspended by The Crash Lucha Libre.
After authorities in San Luis Potosí confirmed an active investigation into Del Rio over alleged domestic violence, The Crash Lucha Libre has now taken action. The promotion took to Instagram and announced on April 8 that Del Rio has been suspended from all of their shows moving forward, making it the first confirmed professional consequence stemming from the situation.
In an official statement, the company made it clear that their decision is tied directly to the nature of the allegations and their stance as a brand. They then confirmed the move regarding Del Rio’s status with the promotion.
“Through this statement, The Crash Lucha Libre is a company with values that promotes the spectacle of sport in a family-friendly manner, and rejects any act of violence outside the sporting context. For this reason, we will suspend Alberto Del Río ‘El Patrón’ from our programming following the events that recently occurred.”
What started as a reported arrest quickly turned into a confirmed investigation, and now it’s already affecting Del Rio’s standing within the wrestling industry. With the case now in the hands of prosecutors and legal proceedings expected to follow, promotions are beginning to respond—and The Crash has made it clear where they stand.
The bigger question now is whether other companies will follow suit, especially given Del Rio’s recent involvement across multiple promotions. If more organizations take similar action, this could escalate quickly from a legal issue into a full professional shutdown.
So with Alberto Del Rio already being suspended by one promotion, do you think more companies will cut ties as this situation develops, or will some wait until the legal process plays out? Drop your thoughts below and let us know.
