AJ Styles is getting ready for one of the biggest moments of his career — but don’t expect a long-winded speech when he steps up for the WWE Hall of Fame.
While speculation continues about who might induct him, Styles himself is now speaking out — and he’s already got a clear vision for how he wants that moment to go. Speaking on his Phenomenally Retro Podcast, Styles was asked about his upcoming induction, and he immediately downplayed the pressure, making it clear he’s not overthinking the moment: “Eh, you know, I’m fine. It’s not like I’ve got to remember the whole thing — I have a teleprompter.”
But even with that relaxed attitude, Styles admitted he’s very aware of one thing — he doesn’t want to overstay his welcome during the ceremony. He then leaned into the reality of how Hall of Fame speeches are often received, acknowledging that even great speeches can lose the audience if they drag on too long.
“I’m going to try not to piss everybody off who came there to see all the other inductions. I’m going to try not to be one of those guys where you’re watching and thinking, ‘Holy cow, wrap it up.’ Everybody’s thinking the same thing — like, ‘Alright, man, that was good, that was great… okay.’”
Because of that, Styles made it clear he’s aiming for a very specific approach — keep it tight and leave a good impression. He also touched on the tone of the speech, saying he’s aware of how others have approached it, but he’s still figuring out exactly what his version will look like.
“So I’m going to make sure I stay within the guidelines and not make people hate AJ Styles based on his Hall of Fame speech. Short and sweet is probably the best way to do it. I know there are guys who try to put a little more comedy into theirs, which is great. I don’t know exactly how it’s going to be or what I’m going to say…”
And while the structure might still be up in the air, Styles made it clear there are certain people he knows he needs to acknowledge when the time comes. Finally, Styles got more reflective, admitting that making it to the Hall of Fame isn’t something he ever assumed would happen — and crediting fans for helping him get there.
“…but I know I’ve got a lot of people I need to thank. I want to tell the fans how much I appreciate them for getting me this far, because I’ve never looked at myself and thought I should have made it. The fact that I did — that’s a testament to the kind of fans that are out there.”
Bottom line — while the induction itself is a huge deal, Styles isn’t trying to turn it into a spectacle. He’s keeping it simple, keeping it real, and making sure the moment lands the right way.
Do you think AJ Styles keeping his Hall of Fame speech short and simple is the right move, or do you want to see him go all out for a longer, more emotional moment? Drop your thoughts below and leave your feedback.
